Some love stories begin with a spark, others with a grand gesture. Jamila and Sebastian’s began in a school assembly, though neither of them knew it at the time.

Jamila had just transferred to a performing arts high school as a singer. On her first day, the very first person she met was Sebastian, a pianist who would soon become a big part of her life. As they performed together, a friendship blossomed. Jamila developed a crush and, summoning all her courage, confessed her feelings, only to be met with, “Maybe in the future.” (Spoiler: the future delivered.)

Determined to stick around, Jamila took up Sebastian’s favourite video game at the time, despite being terrible at it. Even Sebastian’s best friend, Hamish, got involved, secretly training her so she could keep up. Slowly, things started to shift. Conversations stretched longer, laughter came easier, and one day, over a simple Skype message, they both finally admitted it…feelings had changed.

Dating had its challenges. Jamila’s parents weren’t keen on relationships before university graduation, so Sebastian was officially dubbed her “special friend” for years. When he eventually moved in with her family, they ensured there would be no funny business by giving him his own separate bedroom (because nothing says romance like a well-monitored floor plan).

Their love story continued. They got their beloved dog, Misch, and on their sixth anniversary, both graduated, working, and deeply in love, they finally moved in together as an official couple.
